The Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial District, Senator Tony Nwoye, over the weekend commissioned several projects he facilitated across the district as part of his constituency interventions aimed at promoting development and alleviating hardship.
The newly commissioned projects include an internal road at Chukwurah Enweonwu Street, Inland Town, Onitsha; a solar-powered borehole and a double block of 22 shops at the Slaughter Market in Onitsha North Local Government Area; 22 reconstructed shops at Iboku Market, Odoakpu, in Onitsha South; as well as an internal road at Ọmodi Nzekwu Street, Woliwo, in Onitsha North.
Speaking at the commissioning, Lady Jessie Balaonwu appreciated the lawmaker, noting that the projects would go a long way in easing the hardship faced by residents and indigenes of Onitsha.
On his part, the Onitsha North ADC Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ngozi Eze Dinnie, called on leaders at all levels to ensure that the people they govern enjoy the dividends of democracy.” There is no empowerment greater than this because these are the necessary needs of the people , as you can see he has commissioned both roads, borehole, shops and I hope other leaders would emulate the Lawmaker.
Some residents of Odoakpu and Woliwo, who shared their views, said the projects demonstrate that the electorate can indeed benefit from good governance when leaders are committed to serving the people. A shop owner at one of the shops named Chinenye Okafor expressed her joy saying “Am so happy today because Senator Tony Nwoye has proven to be different, this shop he built for us we pay only small money every year compared to the big shop rent other people pay. For Mr. Emeka Amechi, the Senator is a good man who loves and listens to the masses. He said “we pray that the good Lord will continue to bless him for us, can’t you see the way people cluster around him? It is because he is not one of those politicians that disappears immediately after election”.
While commissioning the projects, Senator Nwoye noted that the initiatives were not only to appreciate the electorate for their support during the last election, but also to fulfil his campaign promises and alleviate the hardship faced by the people. ‘’ We came to appreciate them for their support, we are going to come again, if you look at the roads you will see how difficult it is for a lot of people to move around especially some parts of Aguleri that we visited people cannot transport their farm produce.”
The lawmaker also urged the people to ensure they are not discouraged in participating in the politics and governance of the country as decisions are taken based on the people who are represented.
